Exactly. Showing not telling is so much more powerful storytelling. It's the single, albeit glaring weakness of this arc that a massive chunk of it was spent with redundant or unnecessary narration. Imagine this arc with half of the narration. The pacing would progress much smoother, and the story feel that much cleaner.

Unfortunately, this is something that Togashi lost sight of as HxH got further along. Maybe he was just overwhelmed with the increasing complexity, as his storylines became more ambitious, as well as rushing for time that he took a shortcut with narration. In later arcs (not covered by the anime), he has entire panels that are empty except for speech bubbles. I remember 1 entire page in the manga is just text bubbles on a white background.

Everything else is peak in HxH, but "show not tell" is a basic rule of storytelling, and HxH is a great example of why because it showcases both extremes.

Did you know? If Pitou had given a huge portion of his entirety to Meruem like Pouf and Youpi, Meruem would be alright? Here's why: Pitou's ability, as Pitou mentioned, can stop bodies from decomposing. In other words, Pitou's ability COULD cure Meruem's current condition.

However, Gon's brutality towards Pitou actually played a big role here because, without Pitou's ability, Netero's radiation will kill Meruem.
